Mpox (Monkey Pox) Project

ICLAC recently launched an Mpox Project funded by the CDC Foundation. As part of this project, ICLAC is partnering with Better Brothers of LA to raise awareness about Mpox (formerly referred to as Monkey Pox) through prevention education and by helping to increase vaccine confidence.

In response to help increase awareness about mpox, ICLAC and Better Brothers of LA collaborated on a special screening of the Netflix movie, Rustin. The event had more than 100 attendees. After the movie, there was a panel discussion where attendees heard about health issues affecting the Black community, including mpox.

On October 30th the California Department of Public Health recently released a health advisory on increase in mpox cases in California. The average number of cases was 1-7 per week and it increase to 17 cases per week.
