Measles Updates and Resources
As of May 29, 2025, a total of 1,088 confirmed* measles cases were reported by 33 jurisdictions: Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York City, New York State, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington.

FDA licenses Novavax COVID-19 Vaccine (Nuvaxovid) for selected adults; ACIP will consider recommendations for its use at its June meeting
On May 16, FDA licensed Nuvaxovid (Novavax) to prevent COVID-19 disease in adults age 65 years and older as well as those age 12 through 64 years with at least one underlying condition that elevates their risk for severe outcomes from COVID-19. Each dose contains 50 mcg of spike protein plus Matrix-M adjuvant. This is the only COVID-19 vaccine licensed in the United States not based on mRNA technology. The Novavax COVID-19 Vaccine had been offered under emergency use authorization since July 2022.
In June, ACIP is expected to consider its recommendations for use of COVID-19 vaccines for preventing COVID-19 disease.

HHS cancels Moderna contract on vaccines for flu pandemics
The HHS has notified Moderna that it is canceling a ~$600 million contract with the company to develop, test, and license vaccines for flu strains that could trigger future pandemics.

As of May 29th, the CDC, on its pediatric immunization schedule page, says that for healthy children — those age 6 months to 17 years — decisions about COVID vaccination should come from “shared clinical decision-making,” which is “informed by a decision process between the healthcare provider and the patient or parent/guardian.”
Leaving the COVID-19 vaccine on the immunization schedule “means the vaccine will be covered by insurance” for healthy children, the American Academy of Pediatrics said in a statement.
In its adult immunization schedule for people who have medical conditions, the CDC now says it has “no guidance” on whether pregnant women should get the COVID-19 vaccine.
