COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT
ICLAC supports vaccine events in South LA as part of the Partnering for Vaccine Equity (PAVE) Grant from the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO).
On June 25th, ICLAC partnered with Venice Family Clinic in Gardena, who hosted their weekly food distribution event and provided a vaccine clinic, blood pressure screening, health insurance enrollment support, and other additional resources for residents. ICLAC and partnering Community Health Workers from St. Johns, USC, ClÃnica Romero, and Mujeres Extraordinarias conducted vaccine outreach/education and gathered feedback from community members via surveys.
On June 29th, ICLAC attended the Juneteenth celebration event hosted by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health at Earvin “Magic” Johnson Park. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Mobile Vaccine Team provided no-cost COVID-19 vaccines and St. Johns Community Health offered a variety of health screenings, including blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes screening, among others!
ICLAC Around the Globe!
ICLAC Steering Committee member, Julissa Soto, provided a keynote address at the 6th Edition of the World Congress on Infectious Diseases. Held from June 24-26, 2024, in Paris, this congress brought together global experts to discuss innovative strategies for combating infectious diseases. Julissa’s keynote, titled “The Power of Cultural Validation: A Global Innovative Strategy When Working with Vaccines,” took place on June 25th at 11:30 AM. Her presentation emphasized the crucial role of cultural understanding in the development and distribution of vaccines, aiming to improve global vaccination strategies and uptake.
While in Paris, Julissa also visited La Misión Católica Española to provide a ‘Vaccine Sunday’ event.

Information provided is for all routine and recommended vaccines throughout the lifespan including COVID-19 and flu.
Visit LA County Library to register for your free in person vaccine. LA County Library is partnering with LA County Department of public health to provide free flu vaccines and the updated 2023-24 COVID-19 vaccine to people 6 months of age and older. No health insurance is required.

CDC posts updated standing orders for adult mpox vaccination
CDC issued Standing Orders for Administering JYNNEOS (Mpox) Vaccine by Subcutaneous Injection to Persons 18 Years of Age and Older. This document replaces CDC’s older standing orders templates that predated ACIP’s October 2023 interim recommendations for routine use of mpox vaccine in adults at risk of exposure to mpox.

NACCHO releases 2023 Immunization Profile Study, identifying insufficient staffing, interjurisdictional data sharing, and vaccine hesitancy as major barriers
The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) released its 2023 Immunization Profile Study, assessing immunization capacity at local health departments (LHD) nationwide. The report provides insight into the status of immunization programs at the local level, characterizes their activities to control vaccine-preventable diseases and provide immunization services, and identifies challenges and opportunities to strengthen LHD immunization programs.
