Statement from ICLAC Chair:

Protecting Immunization Access Amid Policy Changes

As Chair of the Immunization Coalition of Los Angeles County, I am deeply concerned about the impact of the current presidential administration’s policies, executive orders, and appointments on vaccine access, confidence, and research, as well as healthcare more broadly. During the recent past, we have witnessed an erosion of public trust in vaccines, fueled by misinformation and the undermining of public health institutions. This administration’s harmful stance on science-based policy, along with efforts to weaken the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid, threaten access to routine and life-saving immunizations for millions, particularly those in marginalized communities.

Furthermore, political interference in the work of the CDC and FDA has sown confusion and skepticism, making it even more challenging to combat vaccine hesitancy. As we continue to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and address ongoing public health threats like mpox and measles, we must reinforce confidence in vaccines through clear, evidence-based communication and equitable access to immunization services. Now, more than ever, we need strong advocacy, investment in public health infrastructure, and policies that prioritize community health over politics. ICLAC remains committed to these goals, but we must remain vigilant and proactive in defending the integrity of our healthcare system. We are actively working with multiple partners to identify opportunities, strategies, and new sources of local and non-governmental funding to reinforce efforts that protect Los Angeles County communities through vaccination.
