A message from ICLAC Board President Keri Hurley, PharmD, MPH:

The first three months of 2026 have seen a continuation of the chaos anduncertainty around vaccine recommendations and policy at the federal level.In mid-March, the American Academy of Pediatrics and other groups won anearly victory in the fight against Secretary Kennedy’s efforts to remakefederal vaccine guidelines. However, the temporary injunction in AAP, et al.v. Kennedy, et al. is far from a final decision. The Immunization Coalitionof Los Angeles County, together with professional healthcare organizationsacross the country, remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting ourcommunity through evidence-based vaccination despite federal healthcareupheaval.

Shifting federal vaccine guidance have created real confusion for patients,families, and healthcare providers across the country, including in LosAngeles County. With national vaccine policy in flux and driven by politicsrather than science, the consequences are felt in local pediatric offices,pharmacies, community clinics, and long-term care facilities where providershelp patients and parents navigate conflicting guidance and fear sown frommisaligned narratives around the risks associated with vaccine-preventablediseases.

California, along with our West Coast Health Alliance partners, continues tobe a leader in immunization policy and access, and our state’s public healthinfrastructure, provider community, and coalitions like ICLAC stand ready tofill gaps and provide clarity where federal direction has fallen short. Weaim to continue to support our members and partners with timely,science-based resources and to advocate for those most vulnerable tovaccine-preventable disease. The health of Los Angeles County’s children,families, and communities depends on it.

Updated Vaccine Recommendations

California has joined the West Coast Health Alliance (WCHA) to increaseconsistency of recommendations across states and increase public confidence.

CDPH and the WCHA will continue to review new information and will updaterecommendations as needed. These recommendations are the officialrecommendations of CDPH, as required under Assembly Bill 144 (2025,California Health and Safety Code section 120164).

Public Health for All Vaccine Recommendations

Begin planning now for the fall Flu season! A strong recommendation fromhealthcare providers is a key motivator to get vaccinated. For this currentflu season (2025–2026), there have been115 pediatric flu deaths in the U.S. so far.
