Measles Updates and Resources
CDPH advisory (3/25/25):
- Multiple measles cases have been confirmed in California in recent weeks. All cases have been linked to international travel, reflecting a global rise in measles cases. Â
- Health care providers should consider measles in persons presenting with a febrile rash illness and other symptoms consistent with measles.   Â
- Airborne precautions should be immediately instituted to prevent nosocomial measles exposures.   Â
- Suspected measles cases should be promptly reported to the appropriate local health department (LHD) by telephone, even before laboratory confirmation. Â
- Ensure all patients, especially those planning international travel, are up to date on MMR vaccine per ACIP recommendations.Â

California sues over cuts to CDC infectious-disease funding – Los Angeles Times
- CDPH to lose $800 million that it planned to use in part to vaccinate 4.5 million children
- LACDPH to lose $45 million that it intended to use in part to prevent the spread of measles
- Funding cuts would eliminate staff that work to mitigate disease spread; curtail work by the county mobile infectious disease team to provide vaccines and other healthcare; and forestall upgrades to county data systems and other infrastructure needed to track infectious diseases and share timely outbreak information with the public

ACIP’s February Meeting RESCHEDULED to April 15-16, 2025
The ACIP meeting that was originally scheduled for late February has been rescheduled and will now be held April 15th and 16th with a similar agenda as previously planned. The unnecessary delay in discussions and votes on flu, RSV, COVID, mpox, and other vaccines has caused confusion and disruption, though it is a positive step that the meeting is now back on the docket.
We find our country in the midst of the most severe measles outbreak in generations, with ongoing concern for avian influenza and ongoing planning for Fall and Winter vaccines to prevent seasonal respiratory diseases. Times such as these require public health processes to be thorough, timely, and transparent – all of which were compromised by unwarranted interference in ACIP’s work.
A public comment period related to the meeting agenda is open until 11:59 pm EDT on April 11th. ICLAC encourages our members to provide input on any agenda item(s) from your perspectives as healthcare providers, patients, and/or parents.

Partnering for Vaccine Equity (PAVE) Project Summary Report
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Vaccine Preventable Disease Control Program partnered with the Immunization Coalition of Los Angeles County to implement the Partnering for Vaccine Equity (PAVE) grant funded by the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO). Initiatives aimed to improve vaccine access and awareness among older adults in South Los Angeles. See the full report here.
