World AIDS Day

December 1, 2026

December 1st is World Aids Day, every year since 1988 this day serves as an opportunity to contribute to the end of HIV-related stigma and to continue working to end HIV as a public health threat. This year’s theme is “World AIDS Day 35: Remember and Commit.” For more information on World AIDS Day visit HIV.gov

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) continue to work on developing a safe and effective HIV vaccine. Numerous investigational vaccines are at different stages of development. Scientist are working to develop novel prime-boost regimens that produce strong and long-lasting protective immune responses against HIV. Ongoing studies are working on the design and delivery of antigens to develop vaccine candidates that may induce uninfected people’s immune systems to make broadly neutralizing antibodies (bNAbs).  For more information on the latest advances in HIV vaccine research, please read Progress Toward an HIV Vaccine.
